NASS was founded in 1977 as a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to provide technical assistance, staff training, school safety assessments, safe school plans, and emergency response training to individual school and school district personnel.
Since our inception, it has been our privilege to have trained over 100,000 educators, students, parents and police in various strategies for identifying and responding to disruptive acts which occur on school property. We have conducted workshops in forty-six states, as well as the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Canada. NASS has also provided a security assessment of the schools in Bermuda.
NASS staff is comprised of senior school security experts who collectively have over 100 years of school experience. The president and CEO, Peter D. Blauvelt, has written five books on the topic of safe schools. The latest one, Making Schools Safe for Students, is available through NASS.
